V 21 .......for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!’
Righteous can not be gained through keeping the law, but is given free to those who believe that Christ died and rose again.

Deacon Phil

"We are justified by faith in Christ and not by works" is not a good summary of what Jesus is saying. Jesus adds "of the law," which you have omitted, but it changes the meaning dramatically. "We are justified by faith in Christ and not by the law" is a much better summary.
